I’m finding it hard to get motivated to do much on the E28. It runs well, and there aren’t any glaring needs.
On the list of things I should do:
-Oxygen sensor. Pretty sure mine is not good.
-Rear differential. I’m about 75% sure that is the cause of the speed dependent whine from the rear of the vehicle. It is a 3.25 non-LS. I’m thinking about getting a lower LS one to get a bit more oomph off the line. Also in looking at it this morning it appears to be a leak, though there are no drops on the floor at all.
-Trunk gasket. It leaks by the rear window on the passenger side. I don’t drive it in the rain though.
-Windshield washers. The wipers don’t work, but the washers don’t. Haven’t troubleshooted (troubleshot?) that yet to determine the issue.
-Bumpers. Would really like euro style ones, but the diving board are growing on me.
-I still need to track down the issue with the auxiliary fan not turning on when the AC is on.
-Radio antenna from yesterday’s post.
-Random surface.
But honestly, not much else.
I may go ahead and do an transmission fluid and filter replacement on the Suburban, it is over 100k miles and probably hasn’t been done.

Check the fluid level of the diff as well as feel for play in the pinion bearing.

Watch some project binky for motivation. Car stuff like that always does it for me. YouTube videos of people doing the same repair job helps too.

Will do.

I replaced the fluid after I got it, so unless it leaks only when driving it would be hard for it to be low. How do I check for play in the pinion bearing?

Literally grab the driveshaft where it enters the differential and try to move it. And yes, it can leak out the seals while in motion.

Do you have any info on whether LSD was an option, or standard after a certain year? Trying to figure it out for the Z3, but the more I read, the less clear it is.
I also have a washer pump issue. I’m told it may be a relay behind the glovebox....so I’m avoiding doing that.

For me mye28.com is a great resource, not sure if there is something similar for Z3. The link below actually has some Z3 related info.

I replaced the fluid last year, know I need to do the axle seals. Not looking forward to it.
